Naval Architect / Structural Engineer – Offshore Operations

ABL London are looking for a Naval Architect or Structural Engineer with strong Engineering design background.

  • They will need to have experience in offshore energy, O&G or renewables, transportation, and installation design.
  • They will be willing and able to travel to and attend at offshore site locations.
  • Jack-up experience, design, or operations will be an advantage.

Experience will include the analysis of vessels stability and strength, sea-fastening and heavy lifting design. As well as jack-up rigs / fixed platforms / floaters construction operations, transportation and installation.

Reporting to one of our Technical Leads, the successful applicant will work predominantly on Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) and Consultancy projects. The role is within our Energy team and is aimed at supporting our growth with offshore wind construction projects.

They will undertake MWS engineering review, consultancy and site attendances, on behalf of energy operators, offshore wind developers and offshore contractors on projects including offshore/marine transportation, heavy lifts, load-out and installation of fixed and floating structures as well as Jack-Up rigs operations.

They will spend the majority of their time undertaking chargeable project work. Delivering value engineering and consultancy into client’s organizations. The remainder is expected to be spent on preparation of quotations and bid documents.

The role is aimed at candidates at the early stage of their career, who are looking to develop their career in the exciting sector of offshore energy.

Role Responsibilities

  • Technical document reviews and site attendances with respect to MWS requirements.
  • Attend client meetings and lead the MWS or consultancy agenda during such meetings.
  • Working to meet schedule and budget for MWS and consultancy projects.
  • Project deliveries in accordance with internal policies, the agreed project technical standards and current industry codes.
  • Preparations of bids and tender documents to support the business growth.

Role Requirements

  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards); with a good degree in Naval Architecture or Structural Engineering.
  • Relevant offshore transportation and installation experience.
  • Will possess up to date knowledge of Loadout, Installation and Transportation methods, Codes of Practice, Rules and Guidelines.
  • Good understanding and familiarity with key industry standards for marine operations (e.g., ISO, API, DNV).
  • Role is office based but candidate will need to be flexible and medically fit to travel abroad and to offshore locations for periods of time and sometimes at a short notice.
  • BOSIET/GWO together with a valid offshore medical certificate will be an advantage.
  • Right to work in the UK is required.
