ABL Group appoints new country manager in Panama

ABL Group (ABL) has appointed Jose Rosas as country manager in Panama, Central America.

Rosas will head up our operations in Panama, a strategic and important hub for the shipping industry in the Americas.

Rosas joins ABL from the leading classification society ClassNK, where he was senior surveyor and marine management systems auditor, responsible for carrying out classification and statutory surveys and management systems audits. He also headed ClassNK Academy in Panama, carrying out many projects with stakeholders such as local shipowners and vessel operators, the Panama Maritime Authority and the Panama Canal Authority, among others.

Prior to joining ClassNK, Rosas held roles as naval architect and marine surveyor, including flag state inspections, hull and machinery and P&I Club surveys. He is a naval architect and registered engineer in UK and Panamanian Engineering Councils.

ABL Panama covers the entrances of the Panama Canal, taking advantage during the waiting time for canal transit or during stops for bunkering operations for services such as pre-purchase and condition surveys, owner’s representation, damage surveys, marine casualty investigation response and investigation to local shipowners, law firms and port facilities.

“Panama is an important hub for ABL Group, with our presence in the area dating almost 150 years to our legacy with the Salvage Association. Jose brings a wealth of technical experience covering casualty investigations, condition inspections and port state compliance for the world’s premier flag states. We are delighted to have him join the team to lead our operations in Panama.”

Wagner Rodrigues, South America managing director at ABL Group
