Meet the Team: Philip Atetibi

Across the AqualisBraemar LOC group, teams are united by a shared commitment to support clients globally with practical and pragmatic solutions, de-risking operations across energy and oceans, and driving energy transition in maritimerenewables and oil and gas markets. You know our teams, but do you know our people?

This week we talk to Philip Atitebi – Country Manager and Marine Engineer for AqualisBraemar LOC Nigeria, based in Lagos.

What do you do at AqualisBraemar LOC?

I am the country manager for AqualisBraemar LOC Nigeria and therefore, responsible for the group’s operations across Western Africa.

In particular I oversee our work in loss prevention services across the region, managing relevant specialists, including marine warranty surveyors, and ensuring that our work is consistently executed in line with the group’s defined corporate standards, codes and best practice. Our work is to support our clients to manage the risk in their offshore and marine operations, and to keep it to as low a level of risk as reasonably acceptable.

We also support clients with marine casualty management services in the event of a marine accident, helping clients to manage the situation in a safe and effective manner, keeping loss to a minimum.

What excites you the most about our industry?

I love the industries in which I work – energy, shipping and marine. These industries are fascinating both thanks to the variety of activities you see in them, and thanks to the range of people and expertise you come accross.

I also enjoy the proactive nature of my work  – proactively planning to reduce the risk, and taking into consideration all the unique elements of each individual project – the people working on a given offshore project, the surrounding environment, marine assets to be used on a project, and the wider project supply chain.

I am particularly excited about the projects to which AqualisBraemar LOC has contributed in offshore field development in Western Africa over the last 11 years. These projects range between offshore oil & gas and maritime, and no two projects are ever the same.

What made you join AqualisBraemar LOC?

Having completed 10 years in risk control in an IACS member Classification Society, I saw a position at AqualisBraemar LOC as the natural next step for me in my career dedicated to supporting risk limitation. Furthermore, I also saw that a position at AqualisBraemar LOC offered the chance to gain new experiences and to expand my capabilities to new sectors and services.

What do you do when you are not working?

I enjoy taking part in community service-oriented organisations – for instance, I am a member of the Nigerian Mission to Seafarers’ day to day management, providing hands-on support for the maintenance of facilities at ports and marine centres.

I play golf and am a member of the Ikoyi Golf Club, though I’m not so sure how good my handicap is. Lastly, I really enjoy the opportunity to relax at the end of the day.
