Carole Rainer Lopez, Business Manager | JLA
What do you do at JLA?
I am the Business Manager at JLA, a Group Company of AqualisBraemar LOC. JLA’s business line is responsible for providing MWS services, mainly Location Approvals, for Drilling Contractors around the world. In addition to Business Development, my role is to assist in the preparation of these Certificates of Approval and to review documents for Quality Control. I also issue quotations and liaise with clients regarding our services as well as maintaining JLA’s Quality Management System (QMS).
What excites you the most about our industry?
I have been involved with the offshore and related insurance industry for most of my career. Although I am a licensed Insurance Adjuster in the State of Texas, I have been specifically engaged with pre-risk and risk reduction activities on behalf of drilling contractors. I enjoy the diversity of each project and enjoy the interaction and discussions that follow whether with underwriters, rig owners, or crews on the rigs themselves. I have also been involved in several JIPs (Joint Industry Projects), consisting of Rig Owners, Rig Designers, Rig Operators, Geotechnical Organizations, and Marine Warranty Surveyors created to bring ideas forward for the betterment of the industry. I am currently a member of the Society of Offshore Marine Warranty Surveyors (SOMWS).
What made you join JLA?
JLA was founded some 50+ years ago in Houston, Texas where I live. Their longevity as a business can be attributed to an ethos of serving customers based on practical solutions while meeting underwriters’ warranty requirements. The operational experience within the JLA group and supported by the larger ABL organization allows for quick responses to our customers. When given the opportunity to join this team, I found like-minded individuals working within an industry I enjoy. Working with this group has allowed me to stay in contact with previous acquaintances while forging new business relationships.
What do you do when you are not working?
When not responding to customers around the world in various time zones, I enjoy cycling when I can and my new working-from-home distraction of maintaining a small vegetable/herb garden in my backyard. Mainly, though, I love to spend time with my family, including four grown children and their kids. Grandchildren are the best!
