Celebrating RINA Accreditation of Our Engineer Development Programme

We are thrilled to announce that our Engineer Development Programme (EDP) has been fully accredited by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) for another three years! This prestigious recognition follows a comprehensive visit and inspection at ABL Group’s London office in March.

The RINA accreditation validates our commitment to excellence in engineering education and professional development. It underscores the quality of our programme and significantly enhances the credibility and professional standing of our Engineers in Training (EITs).

Key Highlights from the RINA Panel’s Report:

  1. Structured Training and Responsibility: Our EDP successfully provides graduates with appropriate training and increasing levels of responsibility.
  2. Commendable IPD and CPD Approach: Our approach to Initial Professional Development (IPD) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) was commended, with special praise for our “Lunch & Learn” initiative.
  3. High Graduate Satisfaction: Graduates expressed high satisfaction with the scheme, reflected in our impressive retention rates.
  4. Dedicated Mentorship: Mentors demonstrated enthusiasm and dedication to the programme’s success.
  5. Financial Support for EITs: The financial support provided to Engineers in Training (EITs) impressed the panel.
  6. Positive Feedback on ABL Academy: Our Learning Management System, ABL Academy, received positive feedback.
  7. Continued Mentorship: The continuation of mentoring beyond the EDP completion was praised.
  8. Dedicated HR Support: The panel appreciated the addition of a dedicated HR person to manage the growing programme.

Enhancing Our Programme

As part of our continuous improvement efforts, we will be updating the EDP Guidelines for EITs, Line Managers, and Mentors. The revised guidelines will align modules with UK-SPEC objectives, enhancing relevance across disciplines and compatibility with other Professional Engineering Institutions. Additionally, they will provide clearer assessment criteria and define roles and responsibilities for all EDP participants

“This accreditation is a testament to the quality and excellence of our programme, validating our commitment to providing top-notch training and development opportunities for our engineers.

It not only enhances the credibility of our EDP but also significantly boosts the professional standing of our EITs”

– Liam Hartley, Engineer Development Program Co-ordinator, ABL Group

“We’re committed to maintaining the highest standards in engineering education and professional development.

The RINA accreditation is not just a recognition of our past efforts but also a motivation to continue evolving and improving our Engineer Development Programme for the benefit of our future engineering leaders.”

– Kate Kotiou, Head of Learning & Dvelopment, ABL Group

Thanks to all who contributed to this achievement – our EITs, mentors, line managers, and staff who showcased the strength of our programme during the RINA visit. Their dedication and the strong evidence presented were instrumental in securing this accreditation. We are eager to build on this success and continue providing an outstanding development programme that prepares our engineers for future challenges. This accreditation fuels our passion for innovation and excellence in engineering education, guiding us towards new heights in professional development.
