Meet the team: Chrysa Vlachou | ABL Hamburg

The team at ABL Group shares the passion, vision and values for working in energy and the world’s oceans, de-risking and driving the energy transition. We are driven by the idea that the best work is born from professionalism, diligence… and fun. You know ABL Group, but do you know our team?

Chrysa Vlachou, Naval Architect | ABL Hamburg

What do you do at ABL?

After previously being involved in several projects as a Marine Warranty Surveyor, I joined ABL Germany in 2022 as Naval Architect.

My role varies from project managing MWS projects, supporting clients in several tasks, performing technical review and 3rd-party approval of operational method statements to even attending loading operations on site as MWS.

As I only recently joined the team in the Hamburg office and am keen on expanding my knowledge and experience in many levels, I am sure there will be much more to come, and I am really looking forward to it.

What inspired you to go into the field you are in?

The marine industry, energy and renewables sector is always changing, progressing, improving their old branches and growing new ones and of course never lacking challenges.

One does never stand still on water and that excites me the most.

What do you enjoy about working at ABL?

I very much enjoy working in a multicultural environment with people from different backgrounds.

I also enjoy the wide variety of the everyday work tasks and the fact that I can improve my skills in several fields, expanding my technical knowledge, developing interpersonal communication skills and even getting hands-on experience on site.

What is the most exciting aspect of the energy transition for you?

That there is so much space for creativity, motivation for innovation and development of new technologies contributing to a sustainable and green future.

What do you enjoy in your spare time?

I love spending my time with friends and in nature. I love biking, climbing, hiking – preferably on the mountains – when I find the opportunity. Music and dancing were also always part of my life. Currently I am learning to play the piano and hoping to start soon again with dance classes. I need to create something with my hands, so especially during the longer winter nights I am weaving or painting.

I am also volunteering in a research, design and construction project for the restoration of an old steel river barge with a focus on sustainability and low-tech equipment. Once fully restored, the barge will then be acting as a floating atelier and meeting point while travelling through the rivers of Europe.
