Anne Myers, Country Manager & Principal Surveyor | ABL South Africa
What do you do at ABL?
I am country manager and principal surveyor of ABL’s operations in South Africa.
What inspired you to go into the field you are in?
I’ve always held a keen interest in marine operations management. I found as my experience ashore grew, the field of marine surveying presented a good opportunity to diversify across a broader spectrum of activities which combined both my extensive seagoing and shore based experience.
The growth and expansion of the company into various complimentary business sectors fed into my ambition to diversify the South African office as well as return to a management position, and to grow a team to establish ourselves as the leading marine and energy consultancy in Sub Saharan Africa.
What inspires me to stay? An incredible team of colleagues, a rapidly diversifying company and an opportunity to grow our service division into Africa, creating work opportunities to our young emerging professionals.
What do you enjoy about working at ABL?
I enjoy working for a company which values the importance of remaining relevant and adaptable in a rapidly changing environment. The pool of human resource both from management, in-field staff and our shore based support staff across all fields is without a doubt the most comprehensive I have ever experienced. There is always someone available and willing to impart experience and knowledge in respect of any matter we face in the field or the office (irrespective of the hour). No one is exempt from rolling up their sleeves and getting the job done.
What is the most exciting aspect of the energy transition for you?
The recent decision to actively embark in business development within the renewables sector in South Africa.
Given the energy crisis which has reached its peak in recent months, we are able to engage proactively in local sectors regarding appropriate energy solutions. We are in a position to introduce known and established technologies both in the marine sector as well as the broader shoreside energy sector. ABL brings both proven solutions and innovation to the table.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
Reading, mountain walks and gardening (and I’ve been told not to tell anyone that I like cats, but I do!)
