Meet the Team: Luiz Pinho, Snr. Marine Consultant & Manager

This week we talk to Luiz Pinho – business development manager and snr marine consultant for LOC in Brazil.
Luiz is based in São Paulo, and has a focus on developping LOC relationships in oil & gas, renewables and maritime in the wider Brazilian market.
What do you do at LOC?
I joined LOC Brazil with the objective of building our local business and making new connections in São Paulo in 2018.
I was also in charge of looking at the expansion into new products and at opportunities to transfer our skillset into new markets, taking into consideration fluctuations in the oil & gas industry at that time. As a result, we had the opportunity to perform interesting consulting work for two PSV operators – the first to monitor crew onboard during vessel operations, including to witness the use and operation of dynamic positioning (DP) systems. The second one was a supply chain risk analysis and due diligence, for the assessment of business risk.
Today I also have a broader role in supporting our business development. Next step is to increase our presence in the wider South American market as the newly merged ABL group.
When possible, I also often attend on site, to perform inspections and surveys in the São Paulo area.
What excites you the most about our industry?
The perspectives of growth in the oil & gas industry in Brazil are very interesting for the next 5 years at least. I am also becoming more involved with renewables and we expect this market to have a more significant role in the future in our region.
We have a technically solid team and I am very confident in expanding our complex services into new areas and for new activities, based on our team’s expertise and commitment.
What made you join LOC?
My long-term acquaintance with Wagner Rodrigues, our General Manager at LOC Brazil, was key. However, I also saw that there was possibility for me to apply my long-term experience in previous roles to help create new opportunities for our growing and vibrant organisation in Brazil and the wider South American market.
Within LOC I have the opportunity to develop in many different ways, to listen and understand our clients’ needs, and to translate them into a value-added service, that will be impeccably delivered afterwards by our surveyors, engineers and consultants.
What do you do when you are not working?
Obviously, I am a huge fan of football and am a passionate supporter of my team, Flamengo FC.
I also enjoy the outdoors, especially long walks in parks, protected forests or beaches along side the Brazilian coast whenever I have a chance.
