LOC Group creates focused team of offshore renewables energy consultants

LOC Group announces the creation of LOC Renewables, a focused team of consultants to bring the Group’s broad capabilities to the offshore renewable energy sector. LOC Renewables will be led by Dr RV Ahilan, Group Director of Renewables Advisory & Energy Technology.

Alongside Dr Ahilan, LOC Renewables will have dedicated leads located in offices in London, Paris, New York, Singapore and Shanghai, providing consultancy services including design, engineering and marine warranty survey to offshore renewable energy clients across Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Speaking about the launch, Dr Ahilan said: “As the offshore renewables industry has grown, LOC Group, together with our clients, has continually developed our skills to support cutting edge engineering projects. As UK and European expertise in this area spreads to new markets, LOC Renewables is determined to continue investing in the skills, knowledge and technologies needed to deliver the best engineering consultancy for our offshore renewable energy partners.”

Andrew Squire, Group Chief Executive said “LOC has been providing services to clients working in the offshore renewables space for more than 15 years, delivering services to more than two-thirds Europe’s offshore wind farms.

“With our increasing expertise in the sector, we have chosen to formalise our commitment to offshore renewable energy, and bring our offshore engineering expertise to bear, with the creation of a global consulting team under the LOC Renewables banner.”

During Offshore Wind Energy 2017, LOC Renewables consultants will be speaking on two highly anticipated panels hosted by Recharge and the International Jack-up Barge Operators’ Association. Dr Ahilan will join Recharge’s Thought Leader Roundtable on Monday 5th June, discussing the path to commercialisation for floating offshore wind power. Then on Tuesday 6th June, Captain Mike Frampton will speak to jack-up barge operators about the future of installing wind turbines on floating foundations.

LOC Renewables’ recent experience includes a project win for the Seoul office, which has been retained by Swiss Re and Korea Offshore Wind Power to provide engineering consultancy on the 60MW test phase of the Southwest Offshore Windfarm Project in Korea. LOC France also won tenders this year to carry out marine warranty survey services to the country’s very first offshore wind farms – providing consultancy on the transportation and installation of the turbines.

In the UK, LOC Group provided marine warranty survey services during the installation phase of the 576MW RWE-owned Gwynt y Mor windfarm, overseeing procedures for the transportation and installation of the turbines and cables.

The LOC Renewables team will be celebrating the launch of the new division at the Offshore Wind Energy 2017 conference. They will be hosting drinks at stand N-Q61 on Wednesday 7th June, at 17.00.
