ABL Group’s expands energy yield assessment team with Solar PV Principal Consultant

ABL Group in renewables has recently strengthened its service offering in energy yield assessment for solar PV with the addition of a highly experienced solar PV specialist, Daniel Ruiz as Principal Consultant.

Energy yield or resource assessment modelling is a critical component to determine the potential energy capacity of a planned power station, whether that be from solar PV, wind energy or another source of energy. The results of which, play an important role in forecasting the bottom line of a planned project.

Richard Abrams

“Energy yield assessments remain a cornerstone for renewables advisory and remain a critical step in any project investment. Over recent years there has been some commoditisation of the service line. However, we at ABL Group believe that this will continue to be a high skill role that requires increasingly sophisticated skills in order to successfully navigate risks which can prove to be fatal for lenders and investors.

As solar PV continues on its rapid growth trajectory, Daniel’s appointment reflects our commitment to build into that in-house specialist skillset to support the financial community in their backing of solar energy whilst mitigating financial risks from the outset.”

Richard Abrams, ABL Group Onshore Renewables Director

Ruiz is a civil engineer with over 10 years of experience in the appraisal, assessment, design, specification and construction review of a variety of linear infrastructure, renewable and environmental engineering projects.

Through a number of major solar projects and portfolios, he has gained valuable experience on PV performance and production analysis, estimating the theoretical yield for over 10GWp of greenfield sites using PV system software and developing in-house tools, as well as assessing over 2.5GWp of operational data in more than 25 countries across six continents.

Daniel has also performed regular due diligence and site inspection services and applied his knowledge and experience to the quality assurance process and technical R&D, becoming a driving force behind process and methodology development in order to assess current and emerging technologies.

In his new role, Ruiz joins ABL Group’s growing team in solar PV consulting and engineering, which offers a range of independent engineering services to support throughout the development cycle of both onshore and floating solar PV plants. He will be responsible for driving ABL Group capabilities in technical due diligence and energy yield analysis for solar PV projects both in the UK and across the group’s extensive global footprint.

“I’m really pleased to add to ABL Group’s solar PV expertise, as well as to add to the group’s specialist offering in energy yield assessment and resource modelling not only for solar PV, but for wind, wave and tidal energy. ABL Group has a strong portfolio in supporting solar energy development in a number of countries worldwide, through its sister company Innosea’s leading R&D and engineering in floating solar, and combined with the group’s onshore track-record.

“I look forward to actively contributing to the group’s overall success.”
