Stefano Scarpa

As Maritime Decarbonisation Director, Stefano has the role of bringing together the capabilities of the ABL Group in energy transition and renewables in order to contribute to the challenge of decarbonising the maritime sector. ABL Group has vast expertise in renewables and energy transition from well to wake, with a deep understanding of marine operations. The Group can advise on both elements of the decarbonisation challenge: efficiency and alternative fuels, including technical feasibility of projects and new technologies, risk, value creation, emission reductions, carbon footprint, impact on ships operations and regulatory requirements.

Stefano is a qualified naval architect and marine engineer with 25 years’ experience in ship design, engineering consulting, project management and marine surveying. He has expert knowledge in decarbonisation technologies, energy efficiency measures, alternative fuels, and the fast-evolving decarbonisation regulatory international framework.

Stefano has advised governments, utilities, and vessel owners on decarbonisation strategies but also specific action plans with immediate implementation and on the techno-economic feasibility of technical solutions and operational measures to reduce GHG emissions from ships.

As Chair of the International Windship Association (IWSA) Policy Working Group, Stefano regularly attends IMO MEPC and ISWG GHG sessions, contributing to international regulatory development. His active involvement provides him with a strong working knowledge of IMO’s structure, procedures, and policy-making processes.

Stefano holds an MBA from Warwick Business School and has been growing and managing businesses for the last ten years. Before joining ABL Group, he was the Managing Director of the world’s largest superyacht sailing systems service business.

Stefano is highly customer focused, with extensive international and multilingual experience. He is fluent in English, Italian and Spanish.
