Michael Riddell

Michael Riddell is a Master Mariner and Salvage Master with extensive knowledge of and experience in the global Marine environment. This includes Emergency Response and Wreck Removal projects, both operationally and with the various associated services within the Salvage Industry. He was appointed to the Lloyds SCR Panel in March 2019.  

He started his maritime career with Safmarine in South Africa, sailing on cargo, container vessels and bulk carriers. He continued his sea career onboard the ocean-going salvage tugs WOLRAAD WOLTEMADE and JOHN ROSS, thereafter carrying out several vessel deliveries for SMIT. 

He joined SVITZER Salvage on the opening of their office in Cape Town in 2005, promoted to Salvage Master in 2011, and continued with the Company until their restructuring in 2017. He returned to Ardent (Svitzer/Titan Salvage merger) shortly afterwards under contract until Q1 of 2018. He joined London Offshore Consultants (LOC) Singapore as a Master Mariner/Marine Consultant a short while later and thereafter. Brookes Bell in January 2020. 

While in Singapore he was involved in numerous projects, including vessel Suitability and Condition Surveys, Towage Approvals, container ship fire inspections and consulting for and attending Salvage Operations on behalf of Insurers, as well as Governments and Maritime Authorities.
