Meet the team: Mohd Dhiyaulhaq Bakhtiar | ABL Malaysia

The team at ABL Group shares the passion, vision and values for working in energy and the world’s oceans, de-risking and driving the energy transition. We are driven by the idea that the best work is born from professionalism, diligence… and fun. You know ABL Group, but do you know our team?

Mohd Dhiyaulhaq Bakhtiar, Marine Engineer Surveyor, Malaysia

What does your day-to-day look like at ABL?

Mohd Dhiyaulhaq Bakhtiar

Day to day, my work focusses on technical due diligence, maritime services including Hull & Machinery (H&M), P&I, and risk assessments, OVID and dynamic positioning (DP) services, proposal preparation, project management and site attendance.

I’m also currently part of the business development team where apart from the areas that I’ve mentioned, we are also looking on closing the market gap on Asset Integrity Management (AIM) and Renewable Energy service offering.

What inspired you to join your industry?

I was raised in a family of Navy Officers and Sailors. My father was a Navy Officer, my maternal grandfather was a sailor and my mother’s brother in law was a Navy Officer as well. Growing up with traits of discipline and resourcefulness instilled and exposed to ships since a young age, I choose the marine engineering path to explore on my own while keeping my roots close to heart.

Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?

We are currently preparing for OTC 2024 which would be held in KLCC on 27th Feb 2024 to 1st Mar 2024.

Our aim is to spread awareness of our integrated service offering across ABL group, including what the four group companies, OWC, Longitude, ABL and AGR have to offer to the market in Malaysia and the region.

We are planning to increase our support in technical due diligence (TDD) and asset integrity management (AIM) particular for marine sectors, DP/Critical System consultancy and OVID inspections (offshore side). We also want to promote our growing expertise in engineering and consulting across green hydrogen projects, floating solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Personally, I’m attending a JH143 (Shipyard Risk Assessment) for our Royal Malaysian Navy’s Submarine Shipyard, which you don’t get to see every day.

What does the future look like in energy and oceans in Malaysia?

The Malaysian Government is actively setting up road maps into renewable energy through the “National Energy Transition Roadmap”, the “Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap” and the “New Industrial Master Plan” with a target of reaching net zero by 2050.

It’s an exciting time for Green Hydrogen , Floating Solar, BESS and CCUS where a lot of local players are venturing into. Currently Sarawak State is pioneering a number of Green Hydrogen studies where they could be the front runner of providing Green Hydrogen in the region. Tenaga National Berhad is teaming up with Petronas to transition their existing plant with Green Hydrogen, Floating Solar & CCS.

ABL Malaysia aims to be the player assisting the local energy transition while solidifying our Maritime and Oil and Gas markets with the wide range of expertise that we have across the ABL Group board.
