Functional Criticality Assessment (FCA) for South American FPSO fleet of 4

Client: FPSO Operator

Asset: 4 FPSOs

Location: South America

Duration: 5 months

Service offering: CMMS Data

Why ABL was contracted

ABL’s Asset Integrity Management team in Aberdeen was contracted by an FPSO Operator to upgrade and standardise Functional Criticality Assessment (FCA) data across its FPSO fleet in South America.

The project focused on cleansing and aligning FCA assessments to improve consistency in the system and equipment criticality classification. The scope also included aligning Safety and Environmental Critical Element (SECE) components with the client’s Operate Performance Standards, supporting a consistent and auditable approach to fleet-wide criticality management.

This work was delivered across:

Month timeline

Our scope of work

Assessment of system and equipment functionality across the defined FPSO scope.

Evaluation of production and business consequences to support consistent equipment tag severity ratings.

Alignment of SECE tags with client Operate Performance Standards.

Provision of CMMS upload templates to enable efficient system integration.

Challenges faced by the client

  • SECE component data across the FPSO fleet required alignment with the client’s requirements and Operate Performance Standards.
  • Risk and criticality classifications were inconsistent across assets, limiting the ability to apply a standardised fleet-wide approach.
  • Existing FCA datasets required review, cleansing and rationalisation to improve accuracy, consistency and auditability.

The value we brought

Aligned SECE component data

with Operate Performance Standards to support clearer compliance and assurance requirements.

Improved the quality, traceability and auditability

of FCA data through structured review, cleansing and rationalisation.

Provided CMMS-ready upload templates

to support efficient integration and controlled implementation of updated assessment data.

Software used for this project: Effio™

Effio™ is ABL’s cloud-based master data build and optimisation software capable of saving up to 50% on time and cost efficiencies compared to traditional methods. By seamlessly integrating with existing ERP, CMMS and workflows, Effio™ provides a one stop solution for controlled, efficient, consistent, and connected deployment of an asset management strategy.

Effio™ was used across the entire project scope for this client, providing the following benefits:

  • Standardised data review, validation and controlled update of FCA information.
  • Centralised data in one place with all changes (including approvals) recorded in the audit log
  • Multi-user access promoting a collaborative working environment between the project team and the client
  • Direct links to drawings for each location within Effio™ using the Library module
  • Automated QA checks for each build category (Locations, Criticality)
  • Automated Criticality calculations within Effio™ for each location
