Meet Subbi Nookala, Country Manager, ABL Norway
The team at ABL shares the passion, vision and values for working in energy and the world’s oceans, de-risking and driving the energy transition. We are driven by the idea that the best work is born from professionalism, diligence… and fun. You know ABL, but do you know our team?

What challenge facing the offshore and energy sectors do you believe requires the most attention right now?
One of the most critical challenges facing the offshore and energy sectors today is balancing energy security, affordability, and decarbonisation simultaneously.
Considering that the world still depends heavily on reliable energy supplies, offshore operators are therefore under pressure to deliver energy safely and efficiently today while investing in technologies that support the transition to a lower-carbon future.
For Norway and many offshore markets, this means focusing on:
- Reducing the carbon intensity of existing operations through electrification, digitalisation, and operational efficiency.
- Scaling emerging energy solutions such as offshore wind, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and hydrogen.
- Addressing workforce and skills challenges, ensuring that experienced talent can support both traditional offshore operations and new energy technologies.
- Maintaining supply chain resilience to support project execution in an increasingly complex geopolitical and economic environment.
Ultimately, the greatest opportunity and challenge is not choosing between conventional energy and new energy, but successfully integrating both to ensure a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy future.
How do events like ONS help drive collaboration across the global energy industry?
In short, ONS helps transform industry discussions into partnerships and practical action, making it one of the key global forums where the future of energy is shaped collaboratively.
For leaders in the energy sector, events like ONS are valuable not just as conferences, but as ecosystems for collaboration. They help us:
- Build strategic relationships
- Identify new business opportunities
- Understand market and policy trends
- Form partnerships for large-scale energy projects
- Accelerate innovation and energy transition initiatives
What inspired you to join your industry?
Growing up, my dad had so many senior ship staff home for dinner (from tanker lightering vessels) and I was enamoured by the fact that they worked hard and were able to make a good living while seeing the world. This excited me and determined the course of my career.
Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?
I am currently working on several marine insurance cases. This type of work challenges me to stay sharp and maintain an objective perspective.
What does the future look like in energy and oceans in Norway ?
Norway is working towards a greener future, focusing on sustainable ports, vessels, and infrastructure. The country’s commitment to green initiatives is promising.
What do you enjoy most about working as part of the ABL team in Stavanger ?

I get to interact with exceptionally intelligent, knowledgeable and hard working colleagues. While our main focus if ensuring ABL is successful, we have a lot of fun.
