ABL Making Waves in Senegal and Mauritania
ABL has made waves in developing its presence and commitment to the markets in Mauritania and Senegal.
We have expanded our local team of marine surveyors and consultants, as well as developed and put into action a regional corporate social responsibility programme to support the communities in which we work and live.
Here we cast a brief spotlight on the growth and activity of one of ABL’s most recent teams in the African continent!
Meet team Mauritania and Senegal
As always, the ABL team in Mauritania and Senegal was established to bring the company’s global experience and quality to the local market via on-the-ground experts.
Mohamed Taleb Mohamed – A Marine Science Engineer and trainee Marine Surveyor based in Nouakchott, Mauritania. Mohamed’s experience stems from the merchant navy and port administration, bringing local expertise in critical ports and harbours infrastructure. Mohamed is currently completing training to become a marine surveyor and MWS and has already attended onsite for a significant number of operations. Visit his profile.
Ndane Faye – Based in Dakar, Senegal, Ndane brings 18 years of experience in the maritime industry, working in various roles, including in ship repair, ship inspections, ship management and newbuild project management. A Naval Architect, Marine surveyor and Marine Warranty Surveyor, Ndane is a multi-lingual professional, who brings significant managerial ability to developing ABL’s expertise and technical services to benefit the Senegalese maritime and energy markets. Ndane has also successfully gained IMCA eCMID accreditation for DP, General and small boat classes. Visit his profile.
Dame Diop – A Marine Surveyor, Marine Warranty Surveyor and Master Mariner, Dame is also based in Dakar, Senegal, and brings over 9 years of seafaring experience with the Senegalese Navy. Dame’s experience extends beyond maritime to the local oil & gas market, with an Advanced master’s degree in petroleum engineering. Working to support local maritime and energy infrastructure.
The team continues to be busy supporting the Greater Tortue Almeyim project (GTA), as marine warranty surveyor and managing associated vessel and marine inspections between the local sites.
GTA envisages the creation of a new African energy hub, unlocking significant LNG resource and gas for Mauritania and Senegal via one of the deepest subsea developments.
The project involves the construction of an ultra-deepwater subsea system of four gas production wells, a mid-water floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, and a nearshore floating LNG facility.
Alongside GTA, our team also provides the local markets with ABL’s wide offering in vessel inspections, audits and surveys, including pre-purchase, marine casualty management and investigative surveys, hull & machinery and P&I surveys, condition surveys and suitability surveys.
Our expertise also extends to eCMID audits and dynamic positioning (DP) trials.
As the team continues to grow on the ground, watch this space, as our local technical offering expands further!
Inspiring Senegal and Mauritania’s Next Generation of Mariners
With a clear commitment not only to support the markets in which we work, but to drive sustainability in the communities where we work, our ABL Mauritania and Senegal team have identified local educational initiatives to support.
Aligned with one of ABL Group’s core values, to strive for technical and service excellence – the team have dedicated time to apply their own professional knowledge and experience to support the learning and development of younger aspiring leaders in energy and oceans:
- The team routinely give presentations to local universities on technical topics including….
- Current project case studies in the local oil & gas industries
- What is marine warranty survey (MWS) and route to becoming an MWS surveyor
- Market opportunities to students in supporting local energy and oceans infrastructure
We have partnered with the Naval Institute of Nouadhibou, Polytechnic School in Dakar, and National Maritime University in Dakar.
The presentations so far have been so successful, that they have even resulted in one student joining the team as a trainee!
- The team also dedicate time to the training and mentorship of two students at the Naval Institute of Nouadhibou, Mauritania, to support them in their master’s degree project research and writing
- ABL has two memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with the Trainmar Centre in Dakar and the Naval Institute in Mauritania to provide a framework for collaboration in teaching
Looking forward to next update
Great to see ABL Mauritania and Senegal going from strength to strength and following the ABL model of growing into local energy and oceans hubs, developing local talent and skills to support the countries’ maritime and energy industries, as well as the local communities.
