eLearning – Process Safety Management (ePSM)

Online learning course accessible through a Learning Management System (LMS). This self-directed course offers a foundational understanding of Process Safety Management, focusing on the essential elements of effective Process Safety Management systems.

Delivery: Structured e-learning modules via a Learning Management System (LMS)

Duration: Approximately 3-4 hours

About the Process Safety Management (ePSM) eLearning course

The ePSM program is an online learning course accessible through a Learning Management System (LMS). This self-directed course offers a foundational understanding of Process Safety Management, focusing on the essential elements of effective Process Safety Management systems.

Incorporating practical tasks and real-life case studies, the course is designed to be interactive and captivating. Upon successful completion, participants will gain a comprehensive insight into the workings of effective Process Safety Management systems, crucial for various industries within the energy sector, including petrochemicals, oil and gas exploration, mining, fertilisers, and more.

This course is delivered in partnership with Synergen OG.

By the end of the course, learners will understand:

  • Fundamentals and importance of Process Safety Management in industrial environments.
  • Methodologies for identifying and assessing hazards and risks.
  • Insight into risk management strategies to prevent industrial accidents.
  • Significance of a positive safety culture in enhancing process safety.
  • Skills for developing and maintaining a supportive safety culture.
  • Principles of continuous improvement, including how to conduct reviews, audits, and assessments for ongoing safety enhancement.
  • Suitable for all sectors and positions within an organisation.
  • Beneficial for supervisory, operations, maintenance, facilities engineers, and design personnel.
  • Ideal for expanding knowledge or enhancing skills in process safety.

Course overview

Introduction to Process Safety

Overview of the significance of process safety management in the oil and gas industry, setting the stage for a deep dive into Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).

Process Safety Culture

Detailed exploration of methods and techniques for identifying potential hazards within industrial operations, emphasising the critical first step in risk management.

Identify and Assess Risk

This module will cover essential topics including hazards and risks, the process of risk assessment, and key assessment techniques such as HAZID, Bow-Tie analysis, and LOPA. We’ll also explore the importance of proper documentation and record-keeping in risk management.

Managing Process Safety Risks

This module covers the consequence modeling and frequency assessment of fire and explosion incidents, providing learners with the tools to predict and mitigate the impacts of such events.

Review and Improvement

An in-depth look at hazards not directly related to hydrocarbons but equally critical to the safety of oil and gas operations, including electrical, mechanical, and environmental risks.
