About the As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) course
ALARP is a decision-making framework aimed at determining whether a particular choice should be carried out or not, or which option from a range of choices is optimal. These choices can span a wide range of issues whether design/operational-related.
ALARP is flexible and provides general rules instead of prescriptive requirements, hence is often misunderstood. This course will provide learners with an insight into the concept of ALARP and how it is applied within the process and energy industry.
This course comprises a 1-day workshop where the participants will be guided through a combination of slides, examples and case studies. In addition, the training will include interactive dialogue with experienced technical safety/process safety practitioners who have been involved in numerous ALARP studies/workshops conducted globally.
This course is delivered in partnership with Synergen OG.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand and apply the ALARP concept
- Identify different options available for risk reduction (hierarchy of control)
- Decide when risk reduction measures can best be used
- Describe the concepts of “tolerability of risk” and “As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP)
