Mohd Dhiyaulhaq Bakhtiar, Marine Engineer Surveyor, Malaysia
What does your day-to-day look like at ABL?

“In my dual role as Senior Marine Engineer Surveyor and Business Development Manager, My day-to-day is a balance of technical and commercial responsibilities. On the client-facing side, I focus on engagement, proposal development, and supporting strategic growth opportunities.
Operationally, I manage resources and oversee a diverse range of projects across ABL’s service lines – technical due diligence, maritime services including Hull & Machinery (H&M), P&I, and risk assessments, OVID and dynamic positioning (DP) services, proposal preparation, project management and site attendance.
This blended role keeps me closely connected to both our clients and our operations, ensuring we deliver value through technical excellence and practical, on-the-ground insight.”
What inspired you to join your industry?
I was raised in a family of Navy Officers and Sailors. My father was a Navy Officer, my maternal grandfather was a sailor and my mother’s brother in law was a Navy Officer as well. Growing up with traits of discipline and resourcefulness instilled and exposed to ships since a young age, I choose the marine engineering path to explore on my own while keeping my roots close to heart.
Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?
Externally, it’s been exciting to see a growing number of clients engaging ABL for consultancy and gap analysis services, this is a sign of increasing trust in our technical capabilities. We’re leveraging the strength of our internal expertise to deliver more strategic, high-value support.
Internally, I’m particularly looking forward to being part of the pilot for our new business development initiative, UNITE & IGNITE. This programme aims to bring together teams across functions and regions to drive collaboration, share knowledge, and unlock new commercial opportunities. It’s a great step toward building a more connected and forward-thinking bustiness development culture within ABL.

What does the future look like in energy and oceans in Malaysia?
The Malaysian Government is actively setting up road maps into renewable energy through the “National Energy Transition Roadmap”, the “Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap” and the “New Industrial Master Plan” with a target of reaching net zero by 2050.

It’s an exciting time for Green Hydrogen , Floating Solar, BESS and CCUS where a lot of local players are venturing into. Currently Sarawak State is pioneering a number of Green Hydrogen studies where they could be the front runner of providing Green Hydrogen in the region. Tenaga National Berhad is teaming up with Petronas to transition their existing plant with Green Hydrogen, Floating Solar & CCS.
Mohd Dhiyaulhaq will be representing ABL Group at two key events in Malaysia this July. He’ll be presenting on “Driving Collaboration & Building Partnerships for a Sustainable Future” at the Sabah Oil & Gas, Energy Conference and Exhibition (3rd–4th July), and on “Scaling Bioenergy: Overcoming Policy, Market and Technological Barriers” at International Energy Week (15th–17th July).
Come meet Mohd and the rest of our local experts at the 📍EIC Pavilion, booth 317, to learn more about how ABL Group is supporting the full energy lifecycle across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
If you’d like to connect with the team at either event, please book a meeting in advance:
