Meet Nikiforos Pililis, Consultant Marine Surveyor, ABL Greece

At ABL people are our business, and our people are our business. Our teams are constantly expanding, into more locations, in expertise and in sectors of influence, so that our people can truly drive safety and sustainability across our energy and oceans.

Each week we introduce you to another member of our staff, from another country or region, for you to meet the energy behind change…

What does your day-to-day look like at ABL?

Every day is a new and complex project, survey report, puzzle to breakdown and after fine-tooth-comb discussions with our Piraeus team and collaboration with our fellow team of experts and industry leaders located Worldwide, deliver the ideal solution.

What inspired you to join your industry?

I was born into the maritime engineering industry, my father, being a chief engineer, brought his young family together on his voyages, leaving me with impactful memories of ocean-going merchant vessels, as a toddler. This developed into an appreciation and love for all things marine over the years.

Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?

I’m currently working on an undersea power cable laying project for island interconnection, with estimated completion in 2025. The aim of the project is to bring power to the people in the outlying Greek Islands. This is a large project for Greece, and I am very proud to be a part of it!

What does the future look like in energy and oceans?

A move towards younger, energy efficient fleets, leaning heavily on energy saving devices and other hull form developments, dual fuel engine vessels and a landscape offering accessible LNG / methanol bunkering facilities in all significant locations.

What do you do in your spare time?

On my spare time I try and keep active. I enjoy cross-country running and cross-country travel. I’m a dog lover and my favourite song at the moment is ETA (what’s your ETA) by NewJeans.
