Damyan Wood, Senior DP and Critical Systems Engineer
What inspired you to go into the DP and Critical Systems field?
Having spent years as a diver before finishing my Marine Engineering, I developed an interest in marine systems and a deep appreciation for their intricacies. These experiences sparked a desire to understand and improve the technologies that interact with our oceans, leading me to pursue a career in dynamic positioning and critical systems.
Tell us about your career background and what led you to working at ABL?
I had been a Senior Engineer with DNV Noble Denton for 15 years, prior to that I was with the Australian Army in the Maritime roles. I had previously worked with some people from ABL and liked the direction ABL has taken with its development and investment in the Offshore industries.
What are your key responsibilities or goals at the moment in your role?
My primary role is subject matter expert for Commercial Diving with an additional role of supporting the Dynamic Positioning team on projects.
What are the key challenges ABL customers are facing at the moment and how do you help them overcome these?
A key challenge for diving operators is the need to fill multiple requirements from industry bodies such as IMCA and IOGP. In my role, I provide broad coverage in assisting clients to meet these requirements through assurance and verification services.
I can also provide single visit services to enable the annual testing and inspection of Dynamic Positioning and Diving systems for vessels such as DSVs.
And finally, a more personal question, what do you enjoy in your spare time?
I have three young boys who make sure that my spare time is well utilised through football, motorcycle racing and golfing.
