About
Holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon and a PhD from the same institution. His professional journey began in 1994, and he has since amassed extensive experience in the application and adaptation of numerical models to tackle complex challenges in coastal systems. His expertise spans a wide array of issues, including the environmental impact of sewage systems, morphodynamic processes, flood dynamics from tsunamis, waves, heavy rainfall, oil spills, and the behaviour of buoyant plumes.
Since 2006, he has broadened his scope by designing and implementing forecasting services to meet the operational requirements of diverse stakeholders such as ports, aquaculture operations, water utilities, and emergency response teams. His academic engagement is evidenced by his collaboration with institutions like the University of Lisbon and the University of Aveiro, where he has co-supervised numerous master’s and doctoral theses and contributed to scientific publications.
From the start of his career, he has concentrated on developing and implementing numerical models for real-world engineering scenarios, employing the latest numerical methods to address problems within stringent deadlines, sometimes just days. His career has notably intersected with the evolution of the open-source MOHID modelling system.
