ABL’s legacy is rooted in the investigation of maritime incidents, dating back to 1856, to the origins of marine surveying with The Salvage Association. Its founding motto – Quaerite Vera – to seek the truth as an independent third-party surveyor or consultant, still lies at the foundation of our business today.

Expert guidance in marine wreck removals

ABL has a long track record in supporting marine salvage and wreck removal projects of all sizes and types on behalf of P&I clubs, hull and machinery (H&M) underwriters, owners’ interests and salvage companies. Our team includes Special Casualty Representatives (SCRs) appointed to the Lloyd’s of London SCR panel, along with naval architects, marine engineers, civil engineers, and former leading sailors. Our multi-disciplined engineering and marine surveying team ensures we can provide the most integrated approach to each project.

Market challenges

Over 50% of our marine salvage consultants come from seafaring backgrounds, with an appreciation for the daily risks and challenges our clients face. This background equips us with a hands-on approach backed by first-hand experience and knowledge of the common challenges impacting the marine salvage market today, including:

Commercial pressures.

Fewer but more costly casualties.

Declining use of LOF.

Regulatory framework.

Declining global salvage revenue.

Technological advancements and risks in their application.

Salvage company consolidation and closure- less choice.
