ABL April New York Market Briefing

Join us for the ABL New York Maritime Market Briefing, where we’ll be discussing a critical topic in maritime safety:

Enclosed Space Entry in Shipping: Understanding the Risks

Entering enclosed spaces onboard ships is a routine but inherently high-risk activity, often necessary for tasks such as hull inspection and maintenance. Despite being well recognised in safety management systems as a hazardous operation, enclosed space entry continues to be a major concern in the shipping industry.

In recent years, efforts to improve safety in these operations have intensified, with regulatory changes under the SOLAS Convention introducing new equipment requirements, enhanced crew training, and standardised procedures for risk assessment. Industry stakeholders have also worked together to raise awareness of the hazards involved. Despite these efforts, there have been a significant number of accidents, most of them showing similarities associated with the lack of understanding about the dangers by both crew and shore personnel.

The technical presentation will be followed by a Q&A and a summary of last month’s high-value maritime case reports.

When: Tuesday 29th April, 10:00 AM NY time

Where: 100 Wall Street New York, NY 10005 USA. Arrivals from 9:00 AM for coffee, tea, biscuits and networking.
