Drilling rig reactivation South America
Project introduction:
ABL’s Rig Inspection team assisted an international rig owner in the technical evaluation of one of their drilling rigs in South America.
The rig, which had completed a bareboat charter, had been cold stacked and subsequently, partially reactivated prior to its handover to the owners.
ABL was tasked with inspecting the condition of the asset and determining the technical requirements to return it to full operational service.

Our scope of work
ABL deployed a multi-disciplined team to support the required scope of work, including:
- Mechanical engineering
- Electrical engineering
- Subsea engineering
- Dynamic positioning and control systems engineering
The combined expertise was required to give the client a full appraisal of the vessel’s condition and future requirements for reactivation.
Results
Advanced visibility to the rig owner of the full state of the asset’s condition
Clear roadmap for improvements for the vessel to return to operations
Close collaboration with the client ultimately enabled a smooth reactivation process
Multi-disciplined in-house expertise facilitated a comprehensive appraisal of technical requirements
“Our team was happy to assist the rig owner with their rig inspection requirements and ultimately assisting with the overall reactivation project of the rig. In our view, this forwardthinking approach of the rig owners allowed them to manage their project efficiently both in terms of project cost and time.”
