Register for our July Market Briefing for the maritime and maritime insurance sectors, our experts will be presenting on shiprepair and shipbuilding in Turkey, specifically the development of the shipyards in the Tuzla and Yalova area.
The webinar is scheduled for Thursday 9th July at 11am UK.
Tuzla and Yalova in the greater Istanbul area in Turkey are considered a major ship repair and shipbuilding hubs where more than forty shipyards operate. Over the last three decades, the area became popular in the ship-repair sector attracting vessels not only regionally but globally and with a repair portfolio of repairs of all levels of complexity. In addition, during the last ten years shipbuilding has also been developed and the order books of certain shipyards have been filled in with orders for chemical tankers, fishing boats and recently military and special purpose / offshore vessels.
Under the above context, we examine the status of the shipyards in this area as well as the trends and developments in the shiprepair and shipbuilding sectors.
This will be followed as usual by a review of last month’s marine casualty reports.
The learning objectives of the presentation are:
- Understanding characteristics of the shipyards culture in Tuzla and Yalova
- How shipyards compete with challenging projects under competitive pricing
- How shipbuilding evolved in need of global supply
Uluc Morek, who will be delivering the main technical subject, started his shipyard career as a repair engineer and has worked actively under various shipyards in Tuzla. Leaving shipyards, Uluc also worked as owner’s representative, conducting repairs of the fleet vessels of bulk carriers and general cargo vessels in the Tuzla and Yalova area. Uluc works in AqualisBraemar as a marine surveyor based in Turkey.
