Paris Mangriotis, Engineering Director at LOC London presents on Incidents and Recovery of Floating Offshore Assets
LOC were invited to participate in a workshop on emergency response in offshore hydrocarbon installations by Hellenic Hydrocarbon Resource Management (HHRM). HHRM is the Competent Authority for Offshore Safety in Oil and Gas Operations in Greece and is also managing exploration & production concessions, offshore safety, and promotion of oil and gas investment in Greece.
The purpose of the presentation was to review LOC’s experience with the salvage or wreck removal of offshore floating assets and, in particular how the marine salvage market responded. It covered the emergency response, the challenges and how they were overcome in an a number of case study examples.
The workshop was also attended by George Savvopoulos from LOC’s marine civil engineering team in the London office. Other participants included Saipem, Hatch, Rosetti, DNV-GL, LR, ABS, Wildwell, UK Sosrep and representatives of other authorities within the Eastern Mediterranean. The overall theme was emergency preparedness and the challenges facing oil and gas exploration contractors in the latest concessions in Greece which are characterised by deep sea waters, reaching depths of over 3,500m.
