Dame Diop appointed as ABL Country Manager for Senegal and Mauritania

Experienced naval officer and marine surveyor, Dame Diop, has been appointed as Country Manager to lead ABL’s operations in Senegal and Mauritania

Dame joined ABL in June 2022 and has been at the forefront of establishing the company’s energy, marine, and engineering consultancy offering locally in Senegal and Mauritania. He blends a decade of seafaring experience in the Senegalese Navy, where he served as Executive and Commanding Officer on patrol vessels, with qualifications in petroleum engineering.

“Since joining ABL, Dame has played a key role in growing our operations in Senegal and Mauritania. He brings a combined marine and energy expertise with local cultural fluency, perfectly placing him to drive ABL’s energy and marine consultancy services in support of our client base in the region. I am personally delighted to have Dame at the helm, as ABL is further cementing our commitment to the development of the Senegalese energy and maritime sectors.”

Shai Tzucker, Managing Director for Energy Services in Europe and West Africa

ABL’s experience in Senegal and Mauritania includes marine warranty survey (MWS) to support the transportation and installation operations for BP’s Greater Tortue Almeyim project (GTA) – the biggest energy infrastructure project to date in the region. The GTA will unlock significant gas resources for the area via one of the world’s deepest subsea developments. Dame provided in-country support and MWS onsite attendances for the project, including delivering marine assurance surveys of the proposed project fleet.

In his new role, Dame will support the further development of ABL’s marine assurance and risk, marine operations consultancy, and maritime services, to drive safety and efficiency in local industries.

“Senegal and Mauritania will continue to play an increasingly key role in African energy and notably in the global supply of LNG – widely considered a leading transitionary fuel in our energy transition. ABL has so far had an important role in supporting the safe delivery of critical energy infrastructure operations. I am looking forward to the further expansion of our local technical expertise to support the country’s wider energy and oceans at this pivotal stage.”
