Asian Marine Casualty Forum 2019 kicks off with record attendance

The third edition of the Asian Marine Casualty Forum (AMCF) hosted by LOC, the leading international marine and engineering consultancy, made a resounding start today with almost 400 delegates from more than 20 countries.

AMCF is a unique gathering organised for the industry by the industry and this year’s theme is: “Marine casualties in the 21st century – is the industry coping?”.

Since its inception in 2015, AMCF has become one of the cornerstone events of Singapore Maritime Week taking place this week (April 6-14) and is now recognised as the leading event of its kind.

The two-day event, held at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, was inaugurated this morning by Guest-of-honour Ms Magdalene Chew, President of WISTA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association) Singapore.

Ms Chew spoke about sustainability in the maritime industry and the urgent need for collective solutions to address issues relating to a chronic gender imbalance throughout the sector along with the increasing shortage of well-trained seafarers.

The speaker line-up for ACMF 2019, which includes salvors, P&I Clubs, marine lawyers, authorities, associations and unions, reflects the broad spectrum of the marine salvage and casualty industry that comes together every two years to address the critical issues of the day including the future of the Lloyd’s Open Form and the industry’s ability to handle large and complex shipping casualties.

This year’s AMCF has garnered support from 14 official industry associations as well as more than 30 sponsors.

The key topics presented on day one of AMCF included:

  • Relationships between the marine salvors and insurers in view of changes in the operating environment
  • Qualitative Risk Assessment & Risk Transfer in marine salvage – should the salvor or the insurer bear the risk?
  • Ports of Refuge – collaboration between state and industry
  • Lloyd’s Open Form and other salvage agreements
  • Case studies on MT Sanchi and MV Rena
