ABL Completes MWS Scope for CrossWind’s Base Load Power Hub Topside Transportation

ABL’s Netherlands team, with delivery support from Aberdeen, provided MWS for the load-out, sea transportation, and offloading of the BLPH topside from the Rosetti Marino construction yard in Marina di Ravenna, Italy, to Eemshaven port in the Netherlands. The operation was completed in October 2025.

The BLPH platform, measuring 23m by 46m and weighing approximately 1,800 tonnes, was designed and constructed for the CrossWind Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm. It contains a 2.5 MW electrolyser, hydrogen storage capacity of 1,200 kg, and a conversion module with a 1 MW battery and 5 MWh storage capacity.

Following its arrival in Eemshaven, ownership was transferred to Delft Offshore Turbine (DOT), and under its new name ‘Phynix’, the platform will contribute to research and knowledge development in green hydrogen production.

Craig Winterton, The Netherlands Country Manager at ABL comments:

“This project demonstrates ABL’s capability to deliver technical assurance for complex offshore operations. Our role was to ensure that all aspects of the load-out, sea transport, and offloading of the hydrogen topside adhered to stringent safety and engineering standards.

By applying risk assessment and verification processes, we helped enable the secure delivery of this innovative hydrogen platform, supporting advancements in offshore renewable energy

ABL is proud to have supported the safe and efficient delivery of this pioneering platform, which represents a significant step forward in offshore renewable energy innovation.
