Suzie Wilcox, Onshore Renewables Consultant | OWC Brighton
What do you do at OWC?
I primarily work on resource assessment and energy yield assessment for pre-construction wind projects. In other words, we try to predict the production of future wind farms as accurately as possible. Wind is very unpredictable, which makes this a very interesting field and requires creative problem solving and continuous learning.
What inspired you to go into the field you are in?
My background is in physics and engineering. Being incredibly motivated by the climate crisis that we’re all currently seeing develop around us, renewables was the obvious place to make use of my technical knowledge in a relevant context.
What do you enjoy about working at OWC?
I enjoy contributing to the energy transition in a tangible way. I have been exposed to several really diverse and interesting projects during my relatively short time here, and my knowledge base is expanding all the time. The atmosphere of the entire company is very supportive and familial; it makes for a great work environment.
What is the most exciting aspect of the energy transition for you?
A bit of a bleak outlook, but we need to be rapidly decarbonising our energy industry, much faster than we currently are, probably faster that is feasible. However, with every new renewables project that becomes operational, we are closer. More people are living off natural resources and fossil fuels become increasingly redundant. It is a very exciting field to be working in.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
I spend most of my free time exploiting Brighton’s music scene, indoor climbing gym, board games cafes and hiking routes.
