Meet the Team: Sean Murphy

The team at ABL shares the passion, vision and values for working in energy and the world’s oceans, de-risking and driving the energy transition. We are driven by the idea that the best work is born from professionalism, diligence… and fun. You know ABL Group, but do you know our team?

Sean Murphy, Snr Marine Surveyor | ABL New York

What do you do at ABL?

With a background in naval architecture and marine engineering, I work with both the maritime and renewables teams. Within the maritime team, I focus on marine casualty investigations, marine warranty surveying, loss prevention, and expert witness work. Within renewables, I support the teams at OWC and Longitude with projects involving offshore wind installations and supply chain studies, while also helping to expand the group’s overall footprint in renewables.

What inspired you to go into the field you are in?

I really like problem solving and the learning that often goes with it, and the ability to apply lessons learned to make a positive impact on the world. The maritime and offshore industries provide no shortage of unique and exciting challenges, and the global nature of these industries provides the potential for a broad impact.

What do you enjoy about working at ABL?

I greatly enjoy collaborating with my colleagues and the sense of purpose that everyone brings to their work. We aim to provide value to our clients while making a positive impact on the bigger picture.

What is the most exciting aspect of the energy transition for you?

Our planet is such an incredible place, and to lessen the impact we have on the world around us by transitioning our source of energy to renewables so that future generations get to experience the world in all its wonder – that’s the aspect I find most exciting.

What do you enjoy in your spare time?

Spending time with my family and friends, exploring the northeast and beyond with my wife and daughter. And when time and season permits, hiking and mountain biking!
