Martin Clark, Rig Inspection Manager Europe & West Africa | ABL Aberdeen
What do you do at AqualisBraemar LOC (ABL)?
I am the Rig Inspection Manager responsible for the Europe & West Africa Region. This means that I am involved in all aspects of the business line, liaising with clients or being involved in on-site inspections. I also have a large involvement in Dynamic Positioning (DP) services, such as FMEA and trials attendance, which complement our work on deep-water drilling rigs such as semi-submersibles and drill ships.
What inspired you to go into the field you are in?
I have always had a keen interest in technology and how it works, so it was a simple choice to study Electronic Engineering at University. Being able to apply that education into complex drilling control systems, dynamic positioning systems and other automation systems has been an excellent fit for me. I love being able to help our clients by not only identifying potential problems, but also being part of the solution too.
What do you enjoy about working at AqualisBraemar LOC (ABL)?
It is brilliant to be a part of such a forward-thinking company, working with so many skilled colleagues from around the world. It gives me the opportunity to be involved in many different projects with the vast range of services that the group offer to our clients.
What is the most exciting aspect of the energy transition for you?
The great part is that we can utilise our existing skill-sets to help drive the energy transition. An interesting recent project involved drilling for geothermal power applications, which perfectly aligned with our existing capabilities to help aid the energy transition to sustainable sources of energy.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
I have a young family so we are always busy, our favourite things to do usually involve exploring the fantastic Scottish countryside on our doorstep, climbing hills or mountain biking.
