Meet Akbar Arief Syuhada, Operations Manager, ABL Indonesia

The team at ABL Group shares the passion, vision and values for working in energy and the world’s oceans, de-risking and driving the energy transition. We are driven by the idea that the best work is born from professionalism, diligence… and fun. You know ABL Group, but do you know our team?

What does your day-to-day look like at ABL?

My day-to-day involves maintaining communications internally and externally with clients and members of the team to coordinate our activities as well as monitoring surveys for ABL Indonesia. I also work very closely with our Country Manager to further our offering towards the growing maritime sector in the country.

What inspired you to join your industry?

I always wanted to see the world, so I began my career at seas as a marine engineer for this reason. I continue my career as a marine surveyor, supporting the industry and the safety of people and assets whilst still travelling within Indonesia and overseas.

Can you tell us about something exciting you are working on right now?

Apart from my day-to-day tasks, I continue to expand my knowledge and expertise on our P&I and H&M services and specialising in damage surveys, to further support our clients in the maritime sector.

What does the future look like in energy and oceans in Indonesia?

The Indonesian government has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. Currently, hydropower and geothermal plants form part of Indonesia’s energy mix. Gradually, solar photovoltaics are emerging as a promising opportunity to expand this mix and help achieve the net-zero goal. As we know, Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world, spanning from east to west. To connect this vast territory, the maritime sector is anticipated to play a crucial role in the movement of goods and passengers and, consequently, we can expect significant investments in the sector.

What do you enjoy most about working as part of the ABL Group team in Indonesia ?

ABL Indonesia is a team with a solid work ethic, politeness and respect. People continuously help each other and come together to achieve common goals. We also have a lot of fun and joy in gatherings outside the Jakarta area with the team to reward the hard work everyone is doing.
