Principal Surveyor Yuichi Nakayama joins ABL Japan
Yuichi Nakayama, Principal Surveyor, has joined our growing APAC maritime team.
Yuichi, a Naval Architect, brings almost two decades of industry experience to the team. After graduating from university, his career began by working for a major class society, training in Norway and later joining the Kobe office gaining experience with material certification of steels, pipers, machinery components and pressure vessels.
Within a year, he became ship new building surveyor and carried out Class hull and machinery and damage surveys and eventually became project manager and successfully oversaw the construction of two VLOCs, three Panamax open / semi-open, six Ice-class vessels, two Caustic Soda carriers and a Seismographic Research Vessel. At the time of his departure in, he held the position of site manager / project manager.

He then joined Braemar (incorporating the Salvage Association) operating out of Kobe carrying out surveys on behalf of marine underwriters and other ship or cargo interests, such as hull and machinery surveys, condition survey, single voyage approval, MWS, pre-purchase inspection etc.
Yuichi left Braemar in 2016 and joined SCUA Far East, Japan where he continued his work as a Marine Surveyor for 7 years assisting clients in Japan as well as Internationally and also gained experiences of damage to fixed & floating objects such as wharf, cranes, fishing nets and more.

Yuichi will be stationed in Kobe, Japan. He brings to the team a wealth of experience and specialised expertise that will further enhance our capabilities and play an important role in current and future projects.
