AqualisBraemar increases salvage services capacity

International marine consultancy AqualisBraemar is beefing up its capacity to provide services to insurers and shipowners in salvage situations.

Highly experienced AqualisBraemar in-house marine consultants, Gary Owens and Jason Bennett, have been appointed Members of Special Casualty Representatives (SCR) Panel by Lloyd’s SCOPIC Committee (Special Compensation P&I Clause), effective from 1 January 2021 for a period of three years.

“The two new additional SCR appointments add to our existing team bringing AqualisBraemar’s SCRs to four in total and demonstrates our commitment to offering salvage services to the marine community. Gary and Jason are highly experienced casualty mariners who give us significant extra strength and capability that will do an excellent job,” says Mark McGurran, group managing director for marine surveying & consultancy at AqualisBraemar.

The role of the SCR is to monitor the salvage services and operation then provide a final salvage report, which forms the basis for the settlement of any claim for SCOPIC remuneration that the salvor might have with the shipowner. Whilst usually appointed by the shipowner and/or its P&I club, the SCR performs this role on behalf of all parties and their insurers, including all property interests.

The SCR is normally appointed by the P&I Club on behalf of the salved interests, who share cost of employing the SCR. Lloyd’s Salvage Arbitration Branch administer the overall process.

AqualisBraemar is part of Oslo-listed consultancy group AqualisBraemar ASA.
