ABL Appoints Carmela Friedman as Director of Renewables for England

ABL, the global energy and marine consultancy, is proud to announce the promotion of Carmela Friedman to Director of Renewables for its operations in England.

A seasoned naval architect and marine warranty survey (MWS) professional, Friedman steps into the role following a successful tenure as MWS Consultant within ABL’s London team. Her expertise spans offshore wind transportation and installation (T&I), operations and maintenance (O&M), and subsea cabling projects.

In her new position, Friedman will lead the delivery and strategic growth of ABL’s market-leading services in MWS and engineering consultancy for offshore renewable energy projects across England and the wider North Sea. Her remit includes supporting offshore wind developments, interconnector initiatives, and subsea cabling operations.

“ABL’s London team has built a strong track record in supporting some of the region’s most high-profile offshore wind and interconnector projects. Carmela has played a pivotal role in that success, consistently driving our safety-first approach and raising the bar in service delivery. Her promotion is a testament to her leadership and technical excellence.”

James Anderson, Energy Director, ABL England.

Friedman will assume responsibilities previously held by Mike McLachlan, who continues as ABL’s Director of Renewables for Europe. McLachlan will focus on the further expansion of ABL’s service offering in marine renewable energy to support the broader European offshore wind and interconnector markets.

Mike McLachlan

“ABL, through our legacy brand LOC, has been at the forefront of offshore wind development in Europe since the industry’s inception. As part of ABL Group, we have now supported over 300 offshore wind projects globally. I congratulate Carmela on her new role and look forward to continuing our collaboration to support Europe in accelerating its energy transition goals.”
