ABL Nigeria celebrates 15 years of service to the nation’s energy and maritime sectors

Lagos, Nigeria – July 2025 — ABL proudly marks a significant milestone this week as its Nigeria office celebrates 15 years of dedicated service to the country’s energy and maritime industries. Since its establishment in 2010, ABL Nigeria has grown from a local presence into a trusted partner in some of the nation’s most transformative offshore and infrastructure projects.

Founded as LOC Nigeria under the leadership of Philip Atitebi, the Lagos-based office has evolved into a key regional hub for ABL’s global operations. Over the past decade and a half, the team has delivered expert marine and engineering consultancy, marine warranty surveying, and risk services across Nigeria’s offshore oil and gas landscape.

A Legacy of Milestones

ABL Nigeria’s journey has been marked by a series of strategic developments and landmark projects:

2010

  • LOC formally established operations in Nigeria with an office in Lagos.
  • Leadership under Philip Atitebi.

2011

  • Total Energies JV USAN Field Development Project:
  • Subsea Pipeline Umbilical Flowlines & Risers, OLT, FPSO.
  • LOC signs 4-year SLA with ExxonMobil MPN.

2013

  • Began work on Total Energies Egina FPSO Project:
  • One of Nigeria’s most significant energy infrastructure projects.
  • Flagship project unlocking O&G reserves in ultra-deep waters.
  • LOC served as Marine Warranty Surveyor.
  • Provided marine engineering consulting, marine assurance, and risk services.
  • Project duration: 5 years.

2014

  • Engaged on Mobil Producing Nigeria Idoho BP – QIT CRA Pipeline Replacement Project:
  • Included 2 km of 24” CRA pipeline between Edop and Idoho Platforms.
  • Associated topsides modifications and tie-ins at both ends.

2015

  • ExxonMobil MPN extends SLA with LOC for another 4 years.

2017–2020

  • Provided marine warranty services for Amni International’s OML 52 Field Development, covering FSO, MODU, and VQA scopes.
  • Acted as sub-contractor for Chevron Nigeria on the Escravos Export System Project.
  • LOC was acquired by AqualisBraemar in 2020, forming ABL and strengthening local capabilities to support a broader range of clients and industries.

2021

  • Shell signs 3-year contract with LOC for Marine Quality Assurance.
  • LOC served as MWS for:
  • FPSO Sea Eagle Mooring System Maintenance.
  • Bonga FPSO Export Mooring Buoy Construction, Transportation & Installation.

2022

  • Acquired Add Energy, specialists in asset integrity management and operations, bringing over 18 years of experience in Africa including more than 50 projects across the region, including work with Shell Nigeria.
  • Signed contract with Chevron Nigeria Limited:
  • Support offshore and inshore MSRE and Marine Operations within NMA JV and DW areas.

2023

  • Engaged on AML NAVICO FTZE Crude Pipeline Project:
  • Provided MWS services for marine transportation and subsea installation.
  • Signed contract with West African Ventures:
  • Green Energy 20” x 23km offshore Pipeline Scope and loading system installation.
  • Track record of investigating P&I claims on behalf of Protection & Indemnity clubs.

2024

  • Increased collaboration with sister company Longitude:
  • Offering expertise in facilities and subsea design, ship design, and marine operations engineering.
  • Asset Integrity Management (AIM) business firmly established in Nigeria:
  • Addition of an Operations Director.

2025

  • Hosted first delegation at African Sub-Saharan energy conference – SAIPEC.
  • Received contract extension with Chevron Nigeria Limited for another 2 years.
  • Expanded global consulting in Ports and Harbour for NLNG:
  • Collaboration with Port of Lagos on personnel competency frameworks and training.
  • ABL Nigeria marks 15 years in the Oil & Gas and Maritime market.

Project Spotlight: Egina FPSO

A standout example of ABL Nigeria’s impact is its involvement in the Egina Field Development, located in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 130, approximately 200 km offshore from Port Harcourt. The project, operated in ultra-deep waters (1150–1750m), includes:

  • A Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit with a capacity of 208,000 barrels per day and 2.3 million barrels of oil storage.
  • A Subsea Production System (SPS) and Umbilicals, Flowlines, and Risers (UFR) connecting 44 subsea wells.
  • An Offshore Loading Terminal (OLT) located 2 km from the FPSO.

ABL provided marine warranty and engineering services throughout the project lifecycle, supporting local content development by overseeing the construction and integration of FPSO modules in Nigeria.


Looking ahead

In recent years, ABL Nigeria has continued to deepen its local engagement. In 2025, the team hosted its first delegation at SAIPEC and launched new initiatives with the Port of Lagos, reinforcing its commitment to local content and capacity building.
