Drilling rig intake programme
Project introduction:
ABL’s Rig Inspection team was engaged by an international oil company to provide technical support and guidance during the rig intake programme of an Ultra Deepwater 6th Generation DP3 Drillship.
The rig intake programme kicked off with an initial short inspection by our designated project lead, while it was conducting drilling operations for its previous charterer.

Our scope of work
ABL developed and undertook a rig inspection programme, which was tailored to the rig itself and its designated or planned future operations.
The team understood that the two most critical areas where assured performance is essential on Drillship Deepwater campaigns are:
- Subsea Well Control Equipment
- Dynamic Positioning Systems
The technical support, therefore, had a focus on assurance of the above.
Results
Tailored inspection programme to the specific rig and project
Optimum efficiency of the rig intake programme
Maximum cost savings
“Our team was happy to assist our client with their rig inspection requirements. The approach of conducting a project kick-off meeting onboard the vessel allowed us to tailor the inspection programme to the most critical areas for this project and the actual rig type. This approach ultimately assisted with the project’s overall efficiency, unlocking maximum cost savings to the client during their rig intake programme.”
