About
Ian has extensive leadership experience in engineering and delivering multibillion dollar projects.
Dr Ian Cummins is a chartered engineer with over 25 years experience in engineering, engineering management and project management in the Oil and Gas industry. Ian is a projects development director in the energy department, based in London. Prior to this, Ian has worked for marine and structures consultancies, a drilling contractor and seventeen years for BP.
In his role as BP’s Head of Engineering, he managed BP’s central engineering team of discipline experts and led the worldwide engineering discipline across BP, covering projects, operations, wells and technology (in excess of 2200 engineers). During this time, he revitalised engineering within BP and spearheaded industry-wide collaboration and standardisation initiatives.
Before this, as Vice President of Engineering & Quality for BP’s Global Projects Organisation Ian led the transformation of the global projects engineering function to deliver safe and competitive projects while providing leadership, direction and functional support for engineering and quality to all upstream projects.
Throughout his career at BP, he has held technical authority, engineering management and project management positions, with increasing accountability, for major projects both in the UK and across foreign assignments in Azerbaijan, The Republic of Georgia, Trinidad and the United States.
He has particular experience is driving cost reductions in the Oil & Gas industry through leadership, innovation, standardisation and collaboration.
Prior to his time at BP, Ian worked in France and the United States for Schlumberger Sedco Forex as a marine & structures engineer and before that, in the United Kingdom, for highly respected offshore, marine and coastal engineering consultancies.
