Senior Offshore Consultant

Job overview

The Senior / Principal Offshore Consultant will lever their existing network to prospect and develop leads and convert consultancy assignment opportunities and work on and/or project manage consultancy assignments for a range of offshore renewables topics or problems. Manage the teams of multi-disciplined engineers needed to deliver our scopes of work, including both OWC and non-OWC staff.

The consultant will be then engaged in technical roles within the various assignments related to the company’s field of work. The person will be responsible for servicing both, the Polish offshore market and global markets via engagements in some of the key projects. High exposure towards the offshore business and its stakeholders in the Baltic region is also envisaged, together with the need of strengthening OWC’s thought leadership position in the field of offshore wind and renewables.

Key responsibilities and duties

  • Work as technical lead on projects to accomplish the overall delivery of optimum solutions to clients with the timeframe, costs and quality standards established.
  • Represent OWC as a key domain expert, sharing knowledge and experience to support the wider development of competencies within OWC to enhance overall assignment execution to clients.
  • Generate and prospect leads – Including representing OWC at conferences, seminars and meetings to establish business development leads and to market OWC to prospective clients.
  • Follow up on leads to generate new work.
  • Independently prepare tenders and proposals.
  • Consult on all matters of offshore wind topics; such as project development, feasibility, procurement, construction, pre-FEED, O&M, Grid etc. Being able to for instance: reviewing employers’ requirements, reviewing as part of a due diligence assignment, leading work packages, advising on early development topics, development and realization phase projects.
  • Responsible for keeping projects on budget and on schedule.
  • Attend regular internal meetings and external or third-party meetings as required.
  • Ensure all deliverables are conducted in full compliance with approved instructions, procedures and policies.
  • Manage multi-discipline teams of engineers (and other technical staff) in the completion of due diligence assignments for exacting clients.
  • Maintain a consistently high degree of quality and technical excellence in all work product.
  • Mentor and support less experienced team members.
  • Identify and communicate relevant technological developments or regulatory changes which may impact the business or provide new opportunities.

Specific requirements

  • The role is office based with flexibility to working hours. Occasional onsite attendance and other business travel is expected

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified to degree standard in Engineering or a relevant subject
  • Power, Electrical, Geotechnical, Civil and Marine Engineering, Renewables backgrounds preferred
  • Power, Electrical, Geotechnical, Civil and Marine Engineering, Renewables backgrounds preferred

Desirable

  • Offshore wind education and/or experience
  • Well-developed project management skills (certificate confirmed)
  • Chartered member of a relevant professional institutional body

Work experience

Essential

  • Between 5 and 10 years’ experience of working in an engineering/renewables consultancy with large projects, working on offshore or renewable related projects

Desirable

  • Experience in the development, construction and operation of offshore wind projects
  • Experience in conducting technical advisory assignments including due diligence

Technical skills, knowledge and abilities

Essential

  • Ability to coordinate, direct and lead projects and work under own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Familiar with commercial and contractual issues and able to provide guidance to OWC clients
  • Good sales and business development techniques
  • Project orientated with a keen interest and knowledge of offshore wind farm industry and project managements
  • Project management ability, qualification desirable
  • Expert in the use of MS office package

Desirable

  • Excellent technical knowledge and experience of offshore wind farms with specialist knowledge of a relevant area of offshore wind development and construction
  • Project management qualification
  • Understanding of technical and commercial aspects of renewable energy infrastructure projects (including project finance, M&A markets, regulatory/policy matters)
  • Understanding of Polish and Baltic offshore wind markets
