Senior Naval Architect/Structural Engineer – Germany (M/F/D)

We are looking to hire a Senior Naval Architect /Structural Engineer to join our well-qualified and growing engineering team with marine transportation and installation experience. The successful candidate will be part of our growing team in Hamburg, Germany, with strong collaboration with other ABL group offices worldwide.

What you will be doing?

As a Senior Naval Architect /Structural Engineer, you will be undertaking a varied range of Consultancy Projects, mainly as Owner’s Engineer (OE) or Marine Warranty Survey (MWS), covering load-out, transportation, and installation of fixed platforms, floating units, wind turbines, subsea structures, foundations, other project cargoes as well as general marine and offshore operations: heavy lift, towing, mooring, sea fastening, anchor handling, dynamic positioning, jack-up, and vessel inspection.

Responsibilities include leading a project team as a project or package manager and acting as a technical lead in areas of expertise:

  • Be proactive, roll up the sleeves and get involved in the daily work.
  • Project management: communication with client and reporting, management of resources and deliverables.
  • Technical document reviews (reports, procedure, and analysis related to vessel survey, load-out, sea transportation, and offshore installation), including independent spreadsheets and hand calculations.
  • Provide consultancy services which may consist in participating in risk analyses, feasibility studies, concept developments, roadmap assessments using the internal guideline, ABL group database of experience, and engineering knowledge.
  • Ensure that the projects are delivered by the client contract requirements and timely invoicing.
  • Conduct attendances worldwide for project meetings and marine operations (onshore/offshore).
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and members of the ABL Group regarding operational and specialist matters.
  • Be keen on developing new business initiatives as well as taking part in the preparation of technical and commercial proposals in conjunction with the project team.
  • Carry out any other job-related duties as required.

The role is based in Germany, and the incumbent will have the right to work and reside in Germany.

This role is office based but flexibility and willingness to travel, as well as readiness for onshore/offshore assignments at short notice locally and globally for periods, would be required as agreed with your manager.

Flexibility to working hours from time to time may be required.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a determined, results, and client-oriented professional with a supportive and global mindset and excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidate should be passionate about innovation and progress and enjoys working in a dynamic and multicultural environment both independently and as part of a team. In addition, you:

  • Hold a degree in Naval Architecture, Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must have more than 8 years of relevant professional experience in engineering, marine transportation, and installation (experience offshore during marine operations is an advantage and desired).
  • Should possess up-to-date knowledge of Loadout, Installation and Transportation methods, Codes of Practice, Rules, and Guidelines.
  • Must be an enthusiastic and interested team player with a “can do” approach and willing to take part in the growth of the company.
  • Should be capable of working independently, while managing project budgets and schedule is preferable.
  • Must be able to effectively cope with the workload through planning, prioritizing, and efficient delegation of work.
  • Should have excellent communication skills, being able to develop relationships with project teams, and existing and potential clients.
  • Should have a technical and commercial understanding with the ability to structure marine projects and satisfy different stakeholders.
  • Fluent in English. German language skills would be an advantage and desired.
