Be the energy behind change. Join ABL Group.

Since 2006, Longitude Engineering, part of the ABL Group, has delivered independent design and engineering services in the marine, offshore renewables, oil & gas, defence, and offshore infrastructure markets. Our independence, expertise, and experience make us a natural choice for a wide range of design solutions across the Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America. We specialize in the vessel and marine asset design and conversion, marine operations engineering, and energy transition engineering solutions.

We are currently seeking to hire a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team of experts in a dynamic and growing company that is driving the energy transition.

What you will be doing

As our Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary global geoscience team, focusing on projects. You will also be supporting the geotechnical and site characterization inquiries, as well as the delivery of associated technical geoscience project work. In addition, you will assist with a broad range of activities, that include:

  • Geotechnical site characterization from desktop study through to review and interpretation of detailed site-specific data.
  • Specification of data acquisition (geotechnical and geophysical).
  • Management and supervision of data acquisition (geotechnical and geophysical).
  • Geotechnical parameter definition and geotechnical interpretive reporting.
  • Basic geotechnical design and evaluation of offshore structures and foundations.
  • Analysis of geotechnical data, the performance of appropriate calculations, and preparation of reports for site-specific leg penetration analysis.
  • Creation and maintenance of spreadsheets, in-house developed tools, and databases.

You will prepare and assist with project bidding and proposal drafting, specifically providing technically, appropriate, and commercially competitive proposals to undertake geotechnical or geoscientific scopes of work. And you will provide supervision, mentoring, and quality checking for junior staff.

The role is ideally based in Newcastle, but other UK locations (London, South Hampton, or Exeter) may be considered for the right candidate. The incumbent will have the right to work and reside in the United Kingdom.

This role is offered on a hybrid working mode. But flexibility and willingness to travel, as well as readiness for onshore/offshore assignments at short notice locally and globally for periods, would be required as agreed with your manager.

What we are looking for.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent technical knowledge in geoscience. Someone who can proactively approach new business opportunities and pursue these with existing and future clients. • Degree qualified; BEng, Meng, or MSc in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or another related subject. (Soil Mechanics/ Geotechnical would be preferable).
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience as a geotechnical engineer in the design and management field of geosciences aspects within the offshore wind industry.
  • Direct working experience for offshore vessels or jack-ups, on offshore wind projects.
  • Experience in geophysical survey and/or geotechnical data acquisition.
  • Experience in jack-up leg penetration analyses and interpreting geo-data.
  • Experience in guiding and overseeing the work of others, including technical QC, and leading a project through to completion.
  • You must have the knowledge to lead, report, and write technical notes.
  • You must have proficient knowledge in the use of software & ESRI ArcGIS: MATLAB, Visual Basic, Plaxis, GRLWEAP, gINT, and general programming is an advantage.

What is in it for you?
