Senior Geotechnical Engineer – APAC

We are looking to hire a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team of experts in a dynamic and growing company that is driving the energy transition.

What you will be doing

As our Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary global geoscience team, focusing on supporting projects for offshore developments in the Asia Pacific region. You will support in responding to geotechnical and site characterisation inquiries, as well as delivery of associated technical geoscience project work that relates to the Asia Pacific region. In addition, you will assist with a broad range of activities that include:

  • Geotechnical site characterisation from desktop study through to review and interpretation of detailed site-specific data
  • Specification of data acquisition (geotechnical and geophysical)
  • Management and supervision of data acquisition (geotechnical and geophysical)
  • Geotechnical parameter definition and geotechnical interpretive reporting
  • Basic geotechnical design and evaluation of offshore structures and foundations
  • Analysis of geotechnical data, the performance of appropriate calculations, and preparation of reports for site-specific leg penetration analysis
  • Creation and maintenance of spreadsheets, in-house developed tools, and databases
  • Attend internal meetings and external/third party meetings as required and present in a technical or business development capacity
  • Coordinate activities with other local offices within the APAC region and with the global geoscience team

You will prepare and assist with project bidding and proposal drafting, specifically providing technically, appropriate, and commercially competitive proposals to undertake geotechnical or geoscientific scopes of work. And you will provide supervision, mentoring, and quality checking for junior staff.

This role is office-based, and you will have a defined work location. Some offshore or onsite work may be a requirement of the job and may include overseas travel as agreed with your manager.

Flexible working locations: OWC offices in the Asia-Pacific region (Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam), and the incumbent will have the right to work and reside in APAC regions

What we are looking for

We are looking for a candidate with excellent technical knowledge in the area of geoscience. Someone who can proactively approach new business opportunities and pursue these with existing and future clients to discuss a broad range of OWC’s capabilities. The ideal candidate would demonstrate their ability to coordinate, direct and lead complex projects as part of a global team, and work under their initiative with minimum supervision.

  • Degree qualified; BEng, Meng, or MSc in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or another related subject. (Soil Mechanics/ Geotechnical would be preferable)
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience as a geotechnical engineer in the design and management field of geosciences aspects within the offshore wind industry
  • Direct working experience for offshore vessels or jack-ups on offshore wind projects
  • Experience in geophysical survey and/or geotechnical data acquisition
  • Experience in jack-up leg penetration analyses and interpreting geo-data
  • Experience in guiding and overseeing the work of others, including technical QC, and leading a project through to completion
  • You must have the knowledge to lead, report, and write technical notes
  • You must have proficient knowledge in the use of software & ESRI ArcGIS: MATLAB, Visual Basic, Plaxis, GRLWEAP, gINT, and general programming is an advantage
