The Senior Consultant is a critical and global role for ABL with its various interests in renewables. This candidate will be a key member of the delivery teams, as well as taking increasing responsibility within the business, perhaps by leading on a market segment or service line. The role will support one of the onshore renewables technology lines (Onshore Wind, Solar, Energy Storage) and will have a primary connection to one technology but will support all teams as required.

What you will be doing

The role will be to manage various renewables projects and support the positioning of ABL as the global renewables advisor of choice. The candidate will work within teams of multi-disciplined project managers, engineers, analysts, and specialists, developing and working with our global capability. The successful candidate will share in a collective responsibility for meeting our ambitious business growth objective to double our renewables activity by 2025.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Technology (Onshore Wind, Solar, Energy Storage) but will be highly autonomous. The following are the key duties as a guide:

  • Working as part of either the Onshore Wind, Solar or Energy Storage teams
  • Delivering projects to a high standard to ensure the utmost satisfaction of our clients and an outstanding quality of deliverables, including:
    • Technical Due Diligence for lenders, investors, vendors, etc.
    • Owner’s Engineer, supporting developers and owners through design, procurement and construction phases
    • Analysis services such as energy yield assessment, performance analysis, etc. 
  • Leading on proposal writing, supporting business development activities, and representing ABL
  • Managing project key performance indicators, including budgets
  • Managing project teams to ensure optimal delivery of projects
  • Support in the positive development of our people through mentoring, training, etc.
  • Develop ABL’s suite of renewables products to lead in new markets and new (associated) technologies, building new systems through R&D to give ABL a competitive advantage
  • Collaborate with, support and evolve with other businesses, teams and staff in the ABL Group, networking at all levels within the company, as well as with external bodies and acting as a representative of ABL at industry conferences, seminars, events, etc.
  • Ensure that projects operate in accordance with ABL’s high health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to guarantee the safety and wellbeing of staff, sub-contractors and any other third parties who may be impacted by our work.
  • Ensure project work and technical quality standards are maintained through QA/QC processes and with a commitment to driving continuous improvement internally

The role will be based in London, Brighton or one of our overseas offices. Candidate must have the right to live and work in the country of application. Local and international travel may be required. Hours are flexible (subject to the above), but a minimum of 40 hours per week

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:

  • Experience 4 c.5+ years of experience and passion for onshore wind, solar, or energy storage
  • Qualified to at least Bachelor’s or Master’s degree level in Engineering or relevant discipline
  • A successful track record of project managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Functional knowledge of how renewables projects are developed, constructed, operated
  • Practical understanding of the economics of renewable energy projects and the mechanisms by which they are financed
  • Strong technical knowledge, including players, markets, technology, warranties, etc.
  • Key characteristics include: strong interpersonal skills, self-awareness, attention to detail, strength of character, pragmatism and flexibility
  • Excellent communication, report writing skills and oral/written English

Additionally, the following would be favourable:

  • Multiple cultural and language experience and capability
  • Experience working in a consulting environment / with client management responsibility
  • Experience with relevant software (PVsyst, WindPro, WindFarmer, etc.)
  • Experience as Independent Engineer and/or Owner’s Engineer
  • Experience acting as a team leader
  • Experience on other sides of a project (developer, owner, financier, etc.)
  • Hold Chartered Engineer status, or be working towards it
