Metocean Analyst / Engineer
Hamburg, Germany
Be the energy behind change. Join ABL Group.
OWC, an ABL Group company, is a technical and advisory consultancy specializing in wind energy, onshore, offshore, and floating. OWC offers a global service offering, focused on project development services, owner’s engineering, technical due diligence, and independent engineering. We have an unrivalled reputation for providing high-quality, innovative, and reliable solutions, drawing on extensive technical knowledge and practical experience which goes back to the late 1990s in offshore renewables.
We are looking to hire Metocean Analyst to deliver project and package work across a range of metocean services. This role will work on key projects that are enabling the energy transition. It will also include the development of operational and extreme Metocean conditions for offshore wind locations globally, covering both bottom fixed as well as floating wind technology. The successful candidate will work on independent studies or be embedded in a project development team. This will allow him/her to work closely with other technical packages and provide a detailed understanding of the processes and interfaces within an offshore wind project throughout the different development phases of the project.
What you will be doing?
This role will be multi-functional, including modelling and design criteria development, delivery of wind and/or oceanographic measurement campaigns, data quality control and assurance. In addition, duties include:
- Provide our clients with specialist metocean support across a range of offshore projects, from the early stages of development through to construction and into operation.
- Preparation of metocean analysis, offering expertise and studies for feasibility and early design considerations.
- Produce and/or support wind resource and metocean measurement strategies as well as campaign design.
- Support the preparation and management of tenders for offshore and onshore metocean measurement services.
- Manage onshore and offshore measurement campaigns on behalf of the client.
- Independent campaign monitoring, data checks and regular reporting.
- Weather downtime analysis for different scopes including surveys, transport, installation and O&M.
- Support the package management for the wind resource and Metocean package.
- Plan, manage and review third-party metocean study reports to ensure high-quality project inputs as part of technical due diligence projects.
- Contribute to the development of in-house capability for metocean analysis.
- Represent OWC services and capabilities at conferences to customers and stakeholders of this industry.
What we are looking for:
A driven and solution-oriented professional with strong analytical skills, better interpersonal skills, an entrepreneurial spirit and a flair for dealing with clients. A good understanding of offshore wind projects is an advantage, which is not mandatory if you have transferable skills from a related industry (e.g. marine engineering, Oil and Gas, wave & tidal). In addition, you will have:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant and demonstrable experience in metocean, ideally within the offshore wind industry. Candidates with experience in data processing and metocean design criteria development are also welcome.
- Qualified with at least a bachelor’s in engineering or a relevant discipline. A Master’s degree or additional specialist education in Metocean is a plus.
- Experience in the analysis of metocean conditions is essential.
- Ability to produce reports and presentations in English.
- Able to work effectively within a consultancy environment
- Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to deliver expertise for multiple clients simultaneously without compromising quality.
- Good English communication skills and excellent report-writing skills are essential.
