Marine Consultant (Engineer)

Job Overview

As Marine Surveyor within the ABL group, you will be part of our European team involved in vessel surveys, technical advice and consultancy services.  You should be able to produce detailed and accurate reports for our clients. A willingness to travel within Europe and Africa, with some offshore attendances required.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • To conduct inspections (Hull and Machinery and P&I) of equipment and materials for ships and floating structures and report on the findings as required by the client.
  • To perform consultancy services (Marine Warranty) to clients in the maritime field as per our business requirements.
  • To conduct inspections and audits (Suitability, Condition, and Pre-purchase surveys) onboard ships as required by the client.
  • Take part in technical and procedural reviews and marine study reports covering marine and offshore projects as well as site attendance
  • Attendance for transportation and installation, of offshore machinery and structures.
  • Assist with preparation of tenders and proposals for offshore projects.
  • Evaluate operational risks and assess the feasibility of Marine operations by technical review of onsite specifications.
  • Contribute to the development of the Marine and Offshore Operations.
  • Ensure all operations are conducted in full compliance with approved instructions, procedures and policies
  • Assist and/or lead projects (as assigned by the manager) to accomplish the overall delivery of optimum solutions to customers within the timeframe, costs and quality standards established by ABL group and/or the Client
  • Responsible for delivery of quality documents within a timeline established by management and client.
  • Assist with developing business strategy, its marketing and implementation.
  • Liaise with clients to ensure project completion and customer satisfaction.
  • And other duties as assigned or requested

Qualifications

Essential:

Chief Engineer or Second Engineer (STCW A-III/2) or degree qualified or foreign equivalent with significant offshore-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desirable:

  • Extensive knowledge of marine engines and associated machinery.
  • Fully conversant with marine and engineering consultancy to the offshore markets.
  • Strong communication skills and a good command of written and spoken English and Dutch.
  • Previous management experience in a similar role.

Work Experience

Essential:

  • At least 5 to 10 years relevant experience within the Marine or Offshore Industry.
  • Exposure to marine consultancy incl. warranty consultancy, inspections, audits, surveys, damage surveys and project management is a significant advantage.

Desirable:

Experience with Marine Insurance and P&I surveys.

  • Outgoing and pragmatic with strength of character, proactive and insightful with good man management skills
  • Team player with excellent communication skills

Desirable:

  • Previous experience gained from similar role within the offshore industry.
  • Established network within the region.
  • Reside in or around Rotterdam
