Country Manager

The OWC Country Manager in Taiwan reports to the Director of APAC and is responsible for the direction and control of all commercial and operational aspects of the OWC business in the country.

The Manager is responsible for growing OWC’s renewables business in Taiwan, initially focusing on the offshore wind (fixed and floating) segments of the market. The first priority is profitable growth and expanding OWC’s full consultancy portfolio to this geographic market. The focus is on organic growth, with the business unit building on OWC’s strengths and reputation, and also on AqualisBraemar’s ‘in-region’ infrastructure and offshore capability. The role will require close co-operation with the AqualisBraemar regional team to mobilise their support and to promote cross-selling wherever suitable activities present themselves.

The Manager will ensure efficient delivery and service to all internal and external customers, and strive for the highest level of customer satisfaction, whilst setting up the business in the region and achieving organic growth and financial success.

Key responsibilities and duties

The primary responsibility is to commercially and operationally manage the Country unit to deliver growth and profitability targets whist ensuring quality, performance improvement and customer service delivery.

The role is varied and includes:

  • Responsibility and accountability for the establishment, development and performance of OWC’s Taiwan business unit
  • Development of budgets and strategies to achieve the growth plans
  • Commercial responsibility for Taiwan (in conjunction with the OWC Director of APAC)
  • Management of organisational arrangements, systems and processes to enable the efficient and effective deployment of resources in line with and supporting unit development
  • Implementation of approved budgets and plans
  • Implementation of AqualisBraemar’s group policies and procedures throughout the business
  • Delivery of engineering deliverables as part of discrete assignments or supporting projects being delivered to clients in the offshore renewables sector on a global basis
  • Working with the existing AqualisBraemar teams in the region to jointly market services where appropriate, share resources as appropriate and cross-sell opportunities wherever possible
  • Responsibility for recruitment against an agreed recruitment plan
  • Responsibility for close control and management of sub-contractor qualification, quality, cost and performance
  • Management control and support of the OWC Taiwan business unit to ensure progressive turnover, acceptable profit margins and to maintain good cost control and cash recovery
  • Establishing and then maintaining good client relationships with regular contact and checks on satisfaction with respect to service provision and delivery expectations
  • Offering leadership and direction for the OWC Taiwan team
  • Development and motivation of the OWC Taiwan team, fostering a high level of co-operation with other senior managers both in OWC and the wider AqualisBraemar Offshore network
  • Development and achievement of collective goals (including regional goals) with fellow senior managers and regional support functions
  • Contribution to the development and delivery of accurate progress and financial reports to the OWC Director of APAC
  • Facilitating the internal audit process and being responsible for implementing the ensuing action plans
  • Ensuring all projects are well resourced using a combination of local resources and where appropriate back-office support from other OWC or AqualisBraemar offices
  • Ensuring full and accurate understanding of contract pricing mechanisms
  • Working closely with other Directors to ensure that technical compliance and lessons learned from previous projects across the network are transferred to our major projects
  • Developing, gaining authorisation and executing a national-specific sales and marketing plan to achieve agreed revenue and profit objectives
  • Authoring technical reports and presenting at conferences, all designed to showcase OWC’s technical excellence. Encouraging the team to do likewise
  • Liaising and working closely with the OWC Business Development Director in both the planning and execution of sales and marketing activities

Specific requirements

  • The role is office-based, but will require extensive travel to site, shipyards, client offices, etc. both in-country and also within the AP region
  • The role is based in Taipei, Taiwan



  • Degree qualified in an engineering discipline related to offshore renewable business


  • Masters or PhD in an engineering discipline
  • MBA

Work experience


  • An experienced manager with commercial experience
  • Substantial operational experience within a consultancy or project developer
  • Previous knowledge of the offshore wind sector
  • Understanding of the Taiwanese offshore markets
  • Been responsible and can show a successful track record of identifying and converting opportunities into sales


  • Experience in AP outside China and Taiwan, e.g. Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, etc.
  • Experience of the European offshore markets

  • A strong commercial background in engineering consultancy but certainly in the renewables sector
