This has increased the knowledge pool of the DP team, which enhances the quality of the service ABL offers to clients.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-your-background\"><strong>What is your background?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m a qualified Chief Engineer, with 25 years as seagoing marine engineer. I\u2019ve served on all types of DP offshore vessels in addition to large bulk carriers and cruise vessels. I\u2019m a qualified commercial Marine Surveyor and affiliate member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-you-tell-us-about-something-interesting-you-are-working-on-right-now\"><strong>Can you tell us about something interesting you are working on right now?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m currently assisting a client to resolve technical issues on a particular vessel<strong>, <\/strong>with rudder command and feedback failures that may exceed the worst case failure (WCF). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also recently worked on writing an FMEA for a rather challenging DP vessel which required developing solutions in order for the vessel to comply with DP2 regulations and also ongoing Annual DP and 5 Year FMEA Verification trials for various vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-does-the-future-look-like-in-energy-and-oceans\"><strong>What does the future look like in energy and oceans?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In my opinion, the future is hybrid technology and green fuels, as well as autonomous and semi-autonomous DP vessels, which present their own set of unique challenges to overcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Barry and<\/em> <em>the ABL Americas team will be at this year\u2019s\u00a0<strong>DP Conference on  13- 15 October!\u00a0<\/strong>Join our local DP experts in Houston to learn how ABL\u2019s multi-disciplinary team of engineering and operational specialists supports Dynamic Positioning systems across technical, assurance, and project management scopes \u2013 both in the region and beyond.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-limegreen-background-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/event\/abl-americas-at-mts-dp-conference-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CONTACT ABL HOUSTON AT DP Conference <\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-limegreen-background-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/abl-group.com\/abl\/loss-prevention\/marine-surveys-inspections-and-audits\/dynamic-positioning-dp-critical-systems\/\">ABL&#8217;S DP &amp;
