A combination of\u00a0classical and modern control theory,\u00a0the DP system monitors the vessel\u00a0and its surroundings using a variety\u00a0of sensors. These include positionreference\u00a0systems to pinpoint a vessel\u2019s\u00a0location with a fixed or relative reference\u00a0and gyrocompasses as a heading\u00a0reference.
